Devotion 4/2, Jesus and My Coffee! Let’s do a little toe tapping to start our day in His Word!
“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”
Psalm 143:8
Just as we might prepare for a difficult journey by fueling our car, starting the day with Scripture and prayer fuels our soul for the spiritual, emotional, and mental battles of the day. Many people start their day by checking news or social media, allowing the world to dictate their mood. A morning devotion, however, allows you to “exchange whispers with God before shouts with the world”.
It is not about legalism—checking a box—but about intimacy and preparation. It is recognizing that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23) and that His grace is sufficient for whatever you will face.
If it was important to Jesus, shouldn’t be as if not more important to us? “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35
Taking a few quiet moments to center yourself in His presence can change your reaction to difficulties, your handling of temptation, and your overall outlook on the day.
Lord, thank You for the gift of this new day. I choose to put You first, recognizing that Your mercies are new. As I open Your Word, I ask that You speak to my heart. Guide my steps, calm my anxieties, and let me walk in the Truth of Your love today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
