Devotion 4/4, Live Enthusiastically for God
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Mark 9:50
Think of those in the past considered crazy or mad because of their actions or views: Columbus sailing uncharted oceans, Martin Luther for expressing his differing views from the religious hierarchy, Patrick Henry and “give me liberty or give me death” or George Washington when he decided to continue on with the battle at Valley Forge. They were all considered mad.
The salt has lost its flavor! Would God find we Christians dangerous enough to call us mad, in these days when materialism and secularism are sweeping over the world. Thank God there are those who sacrifice time, talents, social position, and lucrative posts, and who fling aside every advantage in order to serve the Kingdom of God.
Reminds me of Christ’s words “I came to serve, not to be served”, a central Christian tenet from Matthew 20:28 and Mark 10:45, where Jesus defines his mission not as seeking power or comfort, but as living a life of humble service and sacrifice to save others. Hmm, He served to save!
Instill in me, Lord Jesus, the same savor that the disciples showed as they lived so enthusiastically for You. I pray for strength in my spiritual convictions to stand solidly on Your Word, for Your kingdom. In your name I pray, Amen.
