Devotion 10/3, Purify my Heart
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense — Jesus Christ the Righteous One.
1 John 2:1
Isn’t it amazing how we’ll fall back into the same old traps again and again. Whether it’s the words we use or how we use them, our sinful thoughts, or our sinful acts, God hates sin. The goal is to not sin even one sin.
Knowing our struggle against the flesh, John gives assurance to those of us trying to live faithful and pure lives. He wants us to know God sacrificed His son, and proclaims us sinless by the blood of Jesus Christ!
This is addressed to all who have placed their faith in the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, and by doing so became a born again child of God (1 John 2:2).
God’s desire for us as His children is that we do not sin, God is a God of perfection, and cannot condone sin.
There is a break in our fellowship with God when we sin, but NEVER our relationship, we cannot be unborn, we are His from conception, a child of God!
Jesus Christ is the righteous One. He is our righteous Defender. When Satan accuses us, the Lord Jesus can point to Calvary and His finished work declaring our sins covered by His atoning blood. Our sins are marked “paid in full”.
Invite Jesus Christ into our hearts each morning as we begin the day. Let’s trust in his power and grace to sustain us and carry us through. When we do, He will!
Thank You Jesus for redeeming me to God, and securing my place in heaven for all of eternity. Even though my sins break your heart, you provided that sacrifice. Please use me as I try to give myself, my life, and my future back to you as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to you as I say “thank you” for your grace, love and mercy. Through Jesus, and in his name I pray. Amen.
My Redeemer lives!
Lord you know my heart, help me to be faithful to you in all I think, say and do. Purify my heart, Lord.
The last verse is perfect.
The music is a little different but the message is perfect.
