Devotion 10/5 Come Holy Spirit, Come

The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1 Corinthians 2:14

The world, the people that don’t know Jesus Christ, cannot understand this great promise, just like it cannot understand much of Scripture. Without the gift of the Holy Spirit, their eyes only see what they can touch with their fingers and cannot fully see what is true in God’s heart and revealed in his Word.
The Holy Spirit is God’s abiding gift, God’s seal and God’s promise. The Spirit is our assurance that what he began with Jesus’ sacrificial death and our participation in it through faith and baptism, he will bring to completion at Jesus’ return. The seeds we sow will only grow in the heart and souls of those that accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, and at that moment they must let the Holy Spirit move them. The Holy Spirit then grows what was sown so that that person can experience the fullness of God, his grace, his mercies and his steadfast love.
The unsaved cannot understand the Bible without the aid of the Holy Spirit, to them the things of God are foolishness. This is a good thing to remember when sharing the gospel with an individual. We can and should share God’s Word with the unsaved, but we must keep in mind that we cannot get anyone to understand the things of God, that is solely the work of the Holy Spirit. He, and only He can move in a person’s heart and open their eyes to the truth.
The world around us will look at what we believe as foolishness. Some will mock Jesus, and be very unkind to us for standing for Him. But who are the fools? Those that deny the only path to eternal life. But we can pray for them as they are only lost. They were created by God and God doesn’t make mistakes. If we miss an opportunity of sowing that seed, that seed the Holy Spirit can grow, wouldn’t God be disappointed in us. We missed a chance to bring one of His creations home.
It is by the Holy Spirit that we go from reading words in the bible to discerning the inspired word of God in scripture.
Come Holy Spirit. Use me for His eternal kingdom, to strengthen the family of God with one more of His children brought home, through prayer, scripture and the Holy Spirit.

Father, I thank you for sending Jesus. Jesus, I thank you for sending the Spirit. Spirit, I thank you for never leaving me alone. As I am filled with the Spirit, O Lord, so fill me more and more until my will and my life more perfectly reflect your desires and character. Use me to bless others just as your presence now blesses me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Holy Spirit, live in my heart, that I may be a living testament of the power of Jesus Christ and his spirit.
