Devotion 10/14, You alone are my God

“I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed — I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God.”
Isaiah 43:11-12

God is telling His people in this chapter that He, and He alone is God, and that the only way to salvation is through Him. No idol or foreign god among them had any power whatsoever to save them. They could worship all the statues they wanted, but there is no power there.
Even though this was written thousands of years ago, it is still very applicable to we who know Christ as Savior today. While we may not have any wood, marble, or gold statues that we bow down to, we are not off the hook as far as idolatry goes. Anything that we trust in or place before God in our lives is an idol and we would be wise to be aware of it! Anything can become an “idol” in our lives if we get our eyes off of Jesus. God is a jealous God and He wants ALL of our hearts and ALL of our trust and dependence in Him alone.
The God who made the tomb empty and made the corpse of Jesus our living and exalted Lord is our God. He is mighty to save. He is our Savior! Imagine the love God has for us, to sacrifice His Son for us, for our salvation. Such an act of love deserves only our best in following God’s Word and nothing less.
1 Peter 2 reminds us that we are here as witnesses to “declare the praises of him who has called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.” We have seen and experienced God’s saving work. We are recipients of his blessing. We are the people who anticipate his mighty deliverance yet to come.

Lord, I confess that I slip so easily into my day-to-day rut and grow immune to the joy and excitement of your salvation. Give me fresh eyes to see and a bold voice to tell of your glorious deeds, your mighty works, and your answered promises. I believe you are leading me to glory, so help me show and share that glory with those who do not know you as God, Savior, and King. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior I pray. Amen.

Lord, I put my trust in you, for you are God almighty, Lord of all. I ask for your devine guidance today and all of my tomorrows, for it is in you I find peace and calm through any trial or trouble. Be still my heart, I know you are my God.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
