Devotion 10/24, Focus on Christ

The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them. My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
Psalm 25:14-15

Where does true deliverance come from? Only from God. Deliverance is found in God through deep, profound respect and love for his holiness and might, through living in covenant relationship with him, and through maintaining our focus on him. Like the tight rope walker whose eyes are not on the ground or the surroundings, but on the rope in front of him where he will walk, so too our eyes must be on the Lord. Only by looking to him will he lead us to safety.
We can look throughout the Word of God and see where God did indeed make some of His ways known to those who had a fearful respect for Him. There is Daniel in the Old Testament and John in the New to name a few. God desires a very close relationship with His people, He doesn’t want us to be afraid of Him, that is not the type of “fear” being referred to here, it is a deep respect and love for Him, His word and His ways. Not unlike what we had for our earthly fathers as children.
God is our Father and He loves His children with a never-ending love, but He deserves our deepest respect and obedience to His Word!
David is confident that the Lord will deliver him out of the present trouble he has found himself to be in. He has seen God do miraculous things in his life and has no reason to believe that He will abandon him now. His eyes are continually heavenward in trust and expectation that God will rescue him from the “snare” of trouble in which he is entangled.
Lord help us to have an unmovable faith in God and His love and care for us. To be confident in Him even when our circumstances may look bleak. He has given us His precious Word to meditate on and His Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us through life.
We must keep our sight focused on Jesus. Just as when Peter was walking to Jesus on the water (Matthew 14:22-33), he did fine as long as His eyes were on Christ, but the second he looked away from Jesus to look at the raging sea underneath him, down he went! It is a very good lesson for us today, we MUST keep our eyes on Christ to live a joyful and peaceful existence this side of heaven. With our focus on Christ, there is a confidence, peace and calm that comes over us. When we focus on Jesus, those snares seem a mere inconvenience, not an obstacle.

Precious Father, you have done so much to save me. You who are so holy and righteous, have reached down to take my hand when I was a sinner and in rebellion to your love. Teach me your ways. Correct the wrongs in my life. Guide me into the ways of your truth. I want to not only be saved from my sin, but from days of uselessness and frustration. Make me a vessel that can be used to honor you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

I love this version of this song. Both Psalms and songs seem to give me a calm peace and confidence like that which comes from my personal relationship with Christ.
Lord, I am weak and I seek strength and focus from your Holy Spirit, that I may have Christ in my sight at all times. I seek you, my Lord and Savior, as Counselor and Comforter. May I live today as a witness to You and your Word. In your name I pray. Amen

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
