Devotion 10/27, A Willing Spirit

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Psalm 51:12

In studying this verse, I found this description that seems so perfect, “The joy of salvation is found only when we realize and accept the forgiveness, grace, and restoration God has given us — when we drink from the stream of grace.”
The joy of salvation is sustained in a changed lifestyle and an ongoing recognition that we walk with God. God’s grace is a refreshing stream that restores salvation.
David had lost the joy of his salvation after he sinned with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed. He had let sin take over and control his thoughts and actions. But now he is aware of just how terribly he has sinned before God and he basically throws himself on the mercy of God with a humble, broken, and contrite heart.
In vs 10 of this chapter we see that David is fully aware that a change needs to take place in his life as he says to God, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
I am sure this was music to God’s ears, for David was a changed person from this point on!
It was the “joy” of David’s salvation that was lost, not his salvation. He was secure in God for eternity, but his close fellowship with God was broken because of his unconfessed sin.
We still sin after salvation, but there is a huge difference between sinning and living in sin. A person who is living in sin has no purpose in their heart to live a godly life, their only thought is to please themselves, not God. But a person who is purposing in their heart to live for Christ will be very convicted when they sin and do as 1 John 1: 9 says and confess it to God. There is nothing more wonderful than to live in the joy of the Lord! To go through each day in the knowledge that He loves us and is always looking out for us as His dearly loved children! That He is there to sustain us and bring us through this life with peace and joy before Him. The key is to keep grounded in his Word and live out our faith in obedience to Him. To pray daily, daily confession, the daily study of His word, to be obedient to Him all are part of a foundation for each day to live our lives for Him.
He has already equipped us with all we would ever need through His indwelling Holy Spirit to live our lives for His glory each and every day!

Thank You Father God for loving me, for sending Jesus to die for my sin, and for sealing my salvation through Your Holy Spirit! I give You all praise, honor, and glory this day Lord, Amen!

Lord, restore the “joy” of my salvation. Give me strength each moment of each day to live fully in your Word. And may the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart always be pleasing to you. You are always with me. I pray that my focus is on you and you alone. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
