Devotion 10/28, Thy Will be Done!

I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart. Psalm 40:8

The goal of the New Covenant of grace and the gift of the Spirit is that God’s law is written on our hearts and demonstrated in our lives. God is not concerened that it be written on tablets of stone. Jeremiah prophesied of such a day when the focus of God’s people would be their desire to do God’s will — a passion to love the things our Father loves and despise the things he despises.
The entire Old Testament foretells the coming of Jesus Christ, that He would come with an eagerness and desire to do the will of Father God. The verse just prior to this one tells how Christ’s coming was written about in Scripture. God had prepared a sacrifice for sin, and He would be the final sacrifice, for His blood was sufficient to cover ALL sin.
Remember in Luke 2 when Mary and Joseph had lost track of Jesus. Anxiously searching for him, they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers answering their questions. When asked what he was doing Christ answered “Why were you searching for me, didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”
Jesus didn’t mean to worry Joseph and Mary, but His will was to be about His Father God’s business.
Every aspect of our lives as born again believers in Jesus Christ should be to do the will of God. We have the indwelling Holy Spirit to reveal to us what His will is for us on every issue we face. There is no need for us to be anxious, we just need to keep our focus on Christ and spreading the gospel as He has instructed us to do (Mark 16:15). His law is within our hearts through the Holy Spirit, and we have His Word to lead and guide us through this adventure we are on. We can come directly to God through Jesus Christ in prayer, the Lord is interceding for us before Him (Romans 8:34).
I desire to do His will even though I mess up at many times. God knows our hearts, He knows our purposes and how human we are. I am so very thankful that He is merciful and forgiving to His children! He will never, ever take my salvation away just because I miss His will for me at times. When He saved me it was for eternity. There was nothing I did to earn my salvation and there is nothing I can do to keep it. It is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9), and it is sealed in the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14), no one can undo what God has sealed, not even me!

Thank You Father God for sending Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah, to bleed and die for my sins. I am so very thankful for the finished work of Christ on the cross, and for the joy of salvation in my heart. Father, thank you for your never ending love, grace and mercies and I give You all praise this day. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

Lord, I lose focus at times. I fail to follow your will, to obey your laws and listen to your Holy Spirit to follow your will for my life. I pray that not my will but Your will be done. You know your plan for my life and your will is best for me and your kingdom. I seek to follow you in all I say and do for the glory of your kingdom. Thank you for all of my blessings of faith, family, friends, your grace, love and mercies. I am rich beyond my wildest dreams for you have surrounded me with a community of believers that love me just as you do, just as I am, a work in progress seeking your will for my life, for the glory of your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, thank you and Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
