Devotion 11/4, Children of a Living God
The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
God uses His word to change us. His Spirit uses the Word to encourage, judge, motivate, convict, instruct, and inspire. With such a great tool so readily at hand for most of us, let’s not let a day go by that we don’t let God use his word on our hearts.
The last part of our verse for today is the key as to why individuals are so intolerant of the Bible. “It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”, there is a great convicting power in the Word of God. When we read that God created us (Genesis 1:27), and we did not evolve from apes, we are now accountable to Him. When we read that ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), we now have to admit we are sinners in need of a Savior. And when we read that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6), we know we must accept Christ as our Savior in order to spend eternity in heaven, for the only other outcome if we reject Christ is an eternity in hell.
This makes the unsaved person very uncomfortable! And it makes satan work double time to try and stifle God’s Word.
For we who know Christ as Lord and Savior however, God’s Word the Bible is most precious. We turn to it daily for spiritual nourishment, teaching, guidance, and encouragement. It also convicts us of unconfessed sin in our lives bringing us to the feet of Jesus in repentance. When God left us His Word, He gave us something tangible to hold in our hands and hear His voice coming through its pages. Every time I read His Word I am listening to God speak to my heart.
The bible will never ever be destroyed no matter how many times satan and the evil people who work for him try to do so (Isaiah 40:8, 1 Peter 1:25).
So take heart, God’s Word, his plan and his road map to eternal life are at our fingertips.
Thank You Lord for Your infallible Word, for the instruction and comfort it gives, and for the power in its pages! Help me to take it in each day and to learn from my reading what You would have me learn for that time in my life. I give You all praise and glory this day. And I give you thanks for your never ending love, grace and mercies. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
I give thanks Lord, that you are a living God, speaking to us through your words in your bible, moving our hearts through your Holy Spirit. I pray for my focus to be be on You and Your Word in all I say or do. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
I picture young children dancing an Irish jig with joy in their hearts when I listen to this song! We should all be dancing in celebration, for we are children of a living God!
