Devotion 11/5, His Living Word
All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.
1 Peter 1:24-25
Peter is quoting Isaiah 40:6,7 in our verse for today. He is reminding his readers that human life is as temporary as grass which soon withers. That physical beauty is as short-lived as the flowers of the field.
We had best not count on human glory or physical attractiveness for any source of lasting peace or joy. They may give fleeting happiness, but never eternal joy!
2 Corinthians 4:16
Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
The new life of the believer in Jesus Christ is incorruptible! The incorruptible word is the message of good news which was preached to Peter’s readers and now to us. When we accept God’s word as truth, and place our faith in the Son of God, we are born again of incorruptible seed (1 Peter 1:23). We now have eternal life that will never fade or die, but will forever be ours through the glory and finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Romans 15:17
“Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God.” Any glory we receive should be pointed straight back to God, without Him we have no glory at all, He is our source of eternal life and every good thing we do on this earth!
Despite the rapid advancements of technology, our deepest needs are addressed only by the eternal and proven will of God in Scripture. And we get that dose of eternal everytime we read His Word.
Thank You Father God for Your incorruptible and perfect word, help me to read it every day and apply its truths to my life for Your glory and my own good. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
Sometimes I just need to shut everything off, read His scripture and listen. There’s a peace that comes over me. “I” think it’s because I am in His Word.
Lord, thank you for the living bible. I pray that your Word fill our hearts and we do your will as we live this day to your glory, Amen.
