Devotion 11/6, Surrender all to Him
I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship.
Romans 12:1
God created us to surrender to His will and authority. When we do not offer our bodies/lives to Him we are in rebellion to Him and that will only lead to chaos and disaster in a believer’s life! As a child of God, we are to surrender ourselves to Him “daily”.
I have a purpose in my heart to live for Him. Yep, I have messed up many, many times, I am human. But my ultimate goal in life is to have a life that is centered on and around Christ and living for Him in all I say and do. Thanks be to God He doesn’t give up on me, even though I fail Him miserably at times, His love for me is eternal and His faithfulness and mercy never ending!
Our “true and proper worship” to God is total commitment to Jesus Christ His Son. It is seeking His will for our lives. In view of His mercy towards us, this is not too much to ask. He willingly laid down His life so that we could live eternally with Him, surely we can seek to live a life that is in obedience to God’s Word and therefore pleasing to Him!
It is a choice that we must make daily, sometimes hourly. The indwelling Holy Spirit enables us to live for Christ, but we must be willing to surrender to Him, to obey His calling, and by doing so we are living out our faith in Jesus.
Because God went first and sacrificed what is most precious to him to save us, he asks us to surrender ourselves to him. This is not just a one time event. We must offer ourselves, our will, our time, our heart, our commitment, to God each day. But what a perfect way to start each day, committing ourselves to Him and enjoying the gifts He has in store for us!
Holy and Righteous Savior, I want to surrender my life, my body, and will to you. But I confess, there are things that I keep from ever placing on that altar. Things I don’t want to give up. To the best of my ability, I will live for you today in a way that leaves nothing outside your Lordship and control. I offer you me — all that I have and am — to be yours today and all the forever I have. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
This song was with me as I read and studied todays verse. I pray that His Holy Spirit fill me, to do His will in all I say and do today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
