Devotion 11/21, Open the Eyes of my Heart
Since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9
Paul is asking God to fill these people with “knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom”. He doesn’t want them to just accumulate knowledge about God, he wants them to experience the knowledge OF God that comes from obeying His Word and seeking His will for their lives. He wants them to live out their faith!
The very same is true for us today. God has no desire for us to only know what His Word says, He wants us to apply it to our everyday lives, doing His will instead of our own, putting others before ourselves, and going the extra mile to show love to those around us.
In a world where we can feel so isolated and alone at times, it is so important for us to know that someone is praying for us and for our spiritual needs. I pray that each of you are blessed by knowing that we share a spiritual journey with people all over the world, and we will pray for each other. Pray the prayer Paul prayed for the Colossian friends he had never met — “I ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” Let’s pray that for each other today.
Father, today I pray for the other believers who come before you and seek to live for you. Even though we live all over the world and have all sorts of needs, we all know that our deepest need is to know and live your will and to be confident that we are known and loved by you. Please fill all of us with the knowledge of your will through Spirit-led wisdom and understanding. We want to know you, honor you, serve you, and ultimately see you face to face. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
Lord, your goodness is great. I pray for my faith family, that we live today in celebration of your “goodness”. You have blessed us with the knowledge of your eternal kingdom and our path to salvation.
Open our eyes each morning, that we see you and praise you in all we say and do. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
