Devotion 11/26, Choose the Light!
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105
Our faith is not a leap in the dark. It is based on the surest thing in the universe – the Bible. There is no risk involved at all in believing in a word that is fixed firmly and forever in heaven by the only true God!
However, if one is not using the “lamp” and chooses to ignore the “light”, disaster will follow. Have you ever tried walking through an unfamiliar dark room? Anxiety, fear and doubt set in. You are sure to stumble. But when the light is turned on, your path is easy to follow. Your emotions instantly changed to comfort and reassurance.
So it is with God’s Word, the Bible. It is the light for every path we will experience. When we go through scary things in life, once God illuminates them with His word and His presence they are no longer as frightening as we thought!
There is great illuminating power in God’s Word. It guides us through life by forbidding us of certain behavior patterns, and showing us the right ways of thinking and acting. We know that we can trust God’s Word, in verse 89 of this chapter it says,
“Your Word oh Lord is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.”
What reassuring grace we have to know God’s will in His own words, the Bible! Now if we will only walk in the light!
Father, thank you for giving me your truth in Scripture. To know that you love me enough to communicate in language so I can hear and read your message is truly awe inspiring. Make my heart hunger for your truth revealed in your Word. I want to grow to be a righteous and gracious child in your family. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Lord, my heart wanders from Your path way to often. I pray for focus on your Word in everything I say and do. I know You are with me always, your Holy Spirit moves me. Help me to be but a glimmer, that those that are hurting or lost might see Your light shine through me, that they may know Your grace, love and mercies that You continue to pour down on me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
