Devotion 11/27, My Comforter
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
John 17:17
Every one of us that trusts in the Lord for salvation is already sanctified. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people set apart unto God. We are maturing in the faith as, day by day, we are being progressively conformed into the lovely image of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
We are set apart. The Word of God has a sanctifying effect on believers. When we read and obey it, we are set apart as a people suitable for the Father’s use. That is precisely what the Lord Jesus is praying for here, that those who claim His name are set apart from the thinking and conduct of this world. He wants us to be totally teachable through His Word and therefore most usable by God as examples of Christ to the unsaved around us.
God’s promises, God’s Scripture, and God’s clearest message of all, his Son, are truth. Only the last of these, Jesus, is truth, grace, deliverer, friend, Lord, Savior, brother, Redeemer.
The old testament is God’s inspired Word and the law. We are to “obey” His Word. The new testament is Christ’s fulfillment of that law and we are to “trust” in Jesus”.
That is faith, to trust in Jesus and obey God’s laws. God’s inspired Word, the Bible is our pathway to salvation by grace through God’s Word. We should study it, embrace it and live it! Our lives are then enriched, full of His blessings and mercies as His children, His family of faith.
When we want to address social issues today, they haven’t changed since the beginning of time, but the answers are always in His Word. Satan distracts the world to keep us from God’s answers, His Word.
Lord, give me a holy passion to know your truth and live it in both word and deed. Make my life be a reflection of your Word, that I proclaim and live your truth. In the name of Jesus, your ultimate Word, I pray. Amen.
Don’t ask me why, but the whole time I was thinking about today’s bible verse and writing this devotion, the 23rd Psalm kept bouncing around in this goofy head of mine.
Lord, I am so thankful for your inspired Word and the blood that was shed for all my sins. You give me direction for my path and comfort knowing “you are with me always”! I pray for your Holy Spirit to fill me today with a passion to please you in all I say and do. Thank you Lord for your never ending grace, mercy and love. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
