Devotion 11/28, Delight in His Word!
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
Psalm 1:1-2
The teaching of the world is that permissiveness is the road to contentment and fulfillment. We are told from every form of media to deny ourselves nothing, and that a life of purity is an archaic way of thinking. But the psalmist sets the record straight.
Do you want to be truly blessed? Then steer clear of the lifestyles of the ungodly. Notice he does not say to stay away from the ungodly, someone needs to tell and show them the love of Jesus and their need of a Savior. He tells us not to “walk in the counsel of the wicked”, do not become partners with them in their ungodly lifestyles. Be careful though, many Christian people get sucked into ungodliness when they were just trying to be a witness for Christ. One needs a godly network of friends that can be there to support us and hold us accountable when interacting with the unsaved on a regular basis.
We get to choose which sources of information we feed our mind. But this privilege and freedom is also a responsibility. God longs to bless us, but that blessing remains dormant until our hearts delight in knowing and doing his will.
When we study God’s Word, we gain godly perspective of all that surrounds us. We will recognize sin immediately and flee from it! We will show God’s love to all we come into contact with as selfishness goes by the wayside in our conduct. In short, we will become more like Christ, which is our goal.
Thank You Lord for Your flawless Word. Help me to take it in daily so that my life will be a reflection of You to an unsaved world that desperately needs Your saving grace. I give You all praise and glory this day, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
We sang this in choir years ago, a choral version. The beatitudes, rejoice and be glad, for yours is the kingdom of God!
Lord, I choose to follow you, by renouncing my sins, studying and applying your Word to my life. I give all praise and glory to You and pray that the Holy Spirit move me in ways that please You each and everyday. I pray and ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
