Devotion 12/4, Just like You Lord
Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
This little verse sums up in a nutshell what the Christian’s life should look like and how the born-again believer should behave moment by moment, in word and in deed, in mind and in motive.
The question should not be, “What would Jesus do?” but can this action be carried out in the name of Jesus and to His glory? Can the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be done in the name of Jesus? Is what I say and do honouring Him? Is what I am and what I think worthy of Him, and is my behaviour an accurate reflection of His holy name, or would I be ashamed if He were to catch me in the very act?
Were we to faithfully apply this verse in our everyday, mundane life, how quickly we would unbolt the portal to our pain and bathe our problems in His perfect peace. Were we to live our lives in full submission to this godly truth, how many difficulties would disappear, and how many obstacles would become glorious opportunities to lift up His name in thankful praise to God the Father?
Everything! All! No matter what we say, no matter what we do, it is to be offered as a gift of thanks to God with Jesus’ name, power, and honor attached! This makes all of life our worship and thanksgiving to God. There’s no such thing as going to worship, if we live, if we talk, if we act it’s worship and should always involve thanksgiving. So how has your worship been lately?
We are told to be thankful! God loves a thankful heart. We can come into the presence of God through Jesus Christ and give Him many thanks for all that He has done and will do for us!
Thank You Jesus for coming to this earth to die for my sins. Help me to be a reflector of Your light to those in my world for Your glory. I love You my Savior and give You all praise, honor, and glory this day. In Your name I pray, Amen!
Years ago, I was asked to sing this in church by a friend who wanted to sing it for his son and the congregation. I wish I would have heard it when my son was younger. I can’t think of a better way to parent any child. The song’s lyrics are so easy to relate to. Listen or read along, but it applies even today as my son is older.
Lord, I seek to live my life as did you, in service to others and with a humble, loving heart always focused on our Father. I ask for strength of Spirit to stay focused on you in all I think, say and do that I may be in God’s favor. This I ask in your name, my Savior and Redeemer, Amen.
