Devotion 12/6, Sing Unto the Lord!

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly”, this refers to the teachings of Christ as found in the Bible, God’s Word. As we read and meditate on His holy word, we saturate our hearts and minds in Him, and as we seek to walk in obedience to Scripture, then it is really at home and dwelling in our hearts. We do this first, before we attempt to do as the rest of this verse says!
“As you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom”. Every Christian has a responsibility towards other brothers and sisters in Christ that God has placed in our lives. We are to help and counsel one another in spiritual wisdom. If we see a Christian in our life being deceived into a false doctrine or teaching it is our duty to go to them in LOVE and try to restore them to the teaching of Christ as taught in the entire Word of God (Galatians 6:1). And if we ourselves start to wander away from Christ, a spiritual person in our lives should come to us in love to restore us.
“Singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts”. God loves to hear His children singing to Him with a grateful heart! I love to sing songs to my wonderful Savior. But even if you were not gifted with a good singing voice, we read in Psalm 100 to “make a joyful noise unto the Lord”. God cares more for the attitude of the heart than the pitch of our voice.

We sing when we are happy. We sing when we are heartbroken. Today we sing out of gratitude. God is not only worthy of all of our praise, he is worthy of all of our thankfulness. But the basis of all our songs is Jesus, and the proclamation of the good news that brings life to us through him. As that message, that word of Christ fills our hearts, we are tuned to be thankful children of the Most High.

I am so thankful today, Lord, for all the many blessings you have poured into my life. Your love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness give me hope for the future. Your gift of Jesus gives me life today and promises life tomorrow. The greatest of all blessings is the assurance that I will one day see you face to face and share your glorious presence forever. In Jesus’ name I thank and praise you. Amen.

Lord, I seek to sing to You from my heart all praise and glory for all you’ve done in my life. I am grateful for all your blessings, for always being with me in my highs and in my lows. You lift me up when I fall and You humble me when I lose focus on You. Thank you for all You do in my life and I pray I fulfill what you have planned for me today. I seek to serve you, Lord, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
