Devotion 12/19, The Lord Will Give Us a Prophet
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like [Moses] from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.
Deuteronomy 18:15
Verse 15 presents a beautiful prophecy about the coming Christ, the true Prophet of God (Acts 3:22, 23)!
Notice the description:
Prophet – one who speaks God’s word.
Like me – like Moses in the sense of being raised up by God.
From among your own brothers – truly human, an Israelite.
“You must listen to Him.” Jesus Christ is the only way to God, so He must be listened to and obeyed. It is our responsibility through the indwelling Holy Spirit to do so.
If you read the rest of this section of Scripture it teaches that this Prophet would serve as a Mediator between God and man (1Timothy 2:5). This passage held hope for the Jews, and can clearly be seen in the Gospels.
God always fulfills His Word, He indeed did raise the Messiah Jesus up from among the Jews, their promised Messiah finally came…..and they not only missed Him, but they rejected Him and crucified Him. They shouted “away with Him”! Will you say the same? Jesus came to this earth to bleed and die for your sin and mine. He did this out of love for us and obedience to His Father. Will you accept His free gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9), or throw it back in His face and spend eternity in hell?
God will not force a relationship with him, it’s a choice.and unlike many choices we make in this world, this choice has an eternal outcome, eternal life with Him or eternal damnation.
Jesus said in John 5:24
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”
Jesus is that prophet like Moses. He has come and taught us God’s truth. He has taught us with his words recorded in the Gospels. He has taught us with his example, through the deeds he has done. He is teaching us through his abiding presence in us and through the Spirit he has given us. But he teaches us most effectively when we put into practice what he has said.
Thank You Father God for sending Jesus to die for me so that I can live with You for all of eternity! I love You so and praise You this day Father, Amen!
Lord, I pray that your Word fills my heart and your will for my life be done. I choose you, Lord, to follow you and your ways. I know I will fall but You will be there to pick me up. Thank you for your steadfast love and Your grace and mercy. My cup overflows with your blessings and I give you all praise and glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
