Devotion 1/5, He Overcame the World
[Jesus said,] “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Jesus is explaining to His disciples here that He was not always going to be physically with them. But they could experience peace in Him. They would have all kinds of troubles and tribulations, they would be hated, pursued, persecuted, falsely accused, and even tortured for taking a stand for Christ. But in the middle of all the unpleasant circumstances, they were to rest on the assurance that through Him they were on the winning side! Christ overcame the world at the cross of Calvary. When He shed His precious blood, He defeated sin, death, and hell. Mankind may take their physical life from them, but they could never touch their eternal salvation and position before Christ.
In today’s world some 2000 years later, the message hasn’t changed. Jesus is speaking the very same message to us today! In this world we will have trouble, but we have the indwelling Holy Spirit of God to enable us to persevere for Christ, and live a life that is pleasing to Him through obedience to His Word.
We are going to always have trials and struggles to endure. But in the midst of struggle, we can remind ourselves that our victory is secure. Jesus has won! We will share in his great triumph. In case you didn’t know, the final outcome is already determined and Christians “win big” through Jesus. And this victory is a forever win, eternal life with Jesus!
How we handle those struggles and trials are being watched by or Lord, but many times it’s the perfect opportunity to witness for Christ. People are always watching and listening. I pray they see Christ in us during our struggles and the peace He gives our soul. I trust, in God’s time, the Holy Spirit will move souls to Christ so they can experience His peace.
Thank you, God, for giving me the victory through Jesus Christ my Lord. I greet the future with anticipation because I know each day brings me closer to you and the glorious future you have planned for all of your children. Until then, I pray that I may never lose sight of that victory and yearn for the day of its arrival! In the name of Jesus, the Victor, I pray. Amen.
I love the lyrics to today’s song and our bible verse. Being focused on Christ and God’s Words. No matter my mental state, good or bad, when I start my morning devotions and my prayers at night, all seems right with the Lord. There is a peace, I can’t explain it. I give you thanks Lord for that peace and the many blessings, love, mercies and grace you shower down on us, stir our souls to to be the best version of us we can be, to be pleasing to you.
In Christ I believe and trust. Stir me Lord! In Jesus’ name I Pray, Amen
