Devotion 1/11, He Glorifies Me
But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
Psalm 3:3
David is telling God that he has many enemies who are trying to hunt him down and kill him, he is overwhelmed. But in verse 3 the mood changes as David gets his eyes off of himself and onto GOD!
He realizes that he is protected by Jehovah, that He is his shield, his glory, and therefore he can raise his head high with his confidence placed in the God of the universe!
The very same is true for every person who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We are children of God and that comes with the shield (protection) of God. The Lord encourages and exults us through His indwelling Holy Spirit!
Sometimes the circumstances in life can bring us down, but it is usually because we have gotten our eyes off of Jesus. A favorite verse for times like this is:
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him on perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
What a beautiful promise from God! Lord help us to keep our minds on Christ and our eyes fixed on Him as we go out each and every day to live for Him.
When I read this verse, I can hear God saying
“even on your worst day you are still my son or daughter, and a child of God!” God is our protector and our proud Father. He gives us glory because he loves us. Because he is our Father who gives us such gracious gifts, we don’t walk with our head bowed low and our spirits slumped over. He gives us ultimate victory! Even on those dark days when victory is hard to find, we are still God’s children. Our Father paints the sunsets and holds the stars in their orbits. He guarantees our future. How can we walk dejectedly when we remember this?
Heavenly Father, give me wisdom as I seek to do Your will each day as You light my way through the darkness of this world, for Your glory Abba, Amen!
There are lots of versions if this song, but today this one touched me, the drum beat like a heartbeat.
No matter what we think the day to come will be like, we are usually wrong. God is in control and we are to do, say and see all things thru Christ. Focus on Christ, not our own circumstance and our attitude changes, we stand upright and with pride. There’s a bounce in your step.
Lord, with our eyes focused on you, the journey is an exciting adventure filled with new challenges and new rewards each day. When I loose focus on you, negative emotions and attitude enter and cloud over my life. I ask for strength of vision and focus on you in everything I say and do today, that I might be the best version of me for You today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
