Devotion 2/5, Power Through His Spirit!
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.
Ephesians 3:16
I love this commentary from Phillip Ware:
“What is one of the most important things we can do for those we love in the Lord? We can pray for them. But more than that, we can pray that God will strengthen them with power through his indwelling Spirit. This same Holy Spirit raised Jesus from death (Eph. 1:19). This same Holy Spirit is God’s great gift for those who ask (Luke 11:13). This same Holy Spirit reanimated a valley of dry bones (Ezekiel 37). And this same Holy Spirit will strengthen those we love in the Lord if we ask for him to!”
In the first part of verse 17 he is reminding the believers that upon salvation the Holy Spirit takes up residence in our hearts and we are to make our hearts a home for Him. Our lives should be such that the Holy Spirit feels listened to and
obeyed. There should be no sinful practices in our lives that squelch or grieve Him. Through faith we practice His presence!
My Lord and Savior, thank You for loving me even though I fail You many times. Thank You for shedding Your blood for my sins, help me to be an accurate reflection of You each day. Help me to place You first in my life and to be strengthened more and more by the Holy Spirit to show Your love. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen!
Father God, You have called us out of the darkness into Your Love. We are changed, new in your Holy Spirit. I pray that we stand tall as a family of faith, that Your light shines through us to be witnesses for Your kingdom. I pray those that have yet to see the light and witness your powerful spirit will see You in us in what we say and what we do. I pray this in Christ’s name, we “will” speak Jesus, Amen.
