Devotion 2/18, Thanks be to God!
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 7:24-25
“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?” Paul is acknowledging that on his own there is no righteousness found in him no matter how hard he tries, he knows the corruptness of mankind and the old nature. One preacher put this as follows; “It is as if Paul has a decomposing body strapped to his back.” The body of course being the old nature (sin).
But the precious realization that follows is priceless! “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Can’t you just feel his audible relief and thankfulness? Oh yes, Jesus Christ is our Deliverer. When He came and died on that cross some 2000 years ago and rose from the dead, He broke the grip of sin, death, and hell by shedding His blood for the atonement of our sins (Acts 2:24). Now all those who have placed their faith in Christ stand clean before God, no sins against us can stand because of the work of Christ at the cross!
That same power of Christ is in each and every believer in Him today (1Corinthians 3:16).
Thank You Lord Jesus for loving me and rescuing me from sin! You are my Deliverer. Help me to tap into Your power that is in me each day so that I may bring honor and glory to You in all I say and do, all the days of my life, Amen!
The closer we get to God through prayer, reading His Word, and setting our mind on Him the less likely we are to giving in to sin and temptation that come our way in this life. And through our salvation, being rescued through Christ as a child of God, all the scars of our sins are in the past. Each day is a new beginning, a new start. Look at yourself as God sees you. It humbles me every day to realize how much he cares for me. He doesn’t see the scares of sin but someone seeking to be better today and all of my tomorrows.
Alot of us have lost loved ones recently. But I take comfort in this song, both for those that have passed and the left behind that hurt from their loss.
Lord, thank you loving me so much, for sacrificing for me so much, and raising from the grave and conquering sin. Your love, grace and mercies still amaze me each and every day. Stir my soul to be the best witness I can be for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
