Devotion 2/22, We are One Body
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Ephesians 4:15
This whole chapter in Ephesians is about unity and maturity in the body of believers, with Christ being the head and His followers being the body that obediently carries out His will on earth. As we grow in the Lord individually, we assist in the effectiveness of the body of believers. When each one listens to the Holy Spirit within and does their part in the body with love, there is a unity that is precious to God and beneficial to us.
Truthful words are accurate. Words spoken in love can be a blessing. But truth spoken in love is redemptive: this kind of speech blesses those who hear it and matures those who speak it. While speaking the truth in love is often not easy, it’s worth it! Look at God and see how painful it was to speak his Word in love by sending Jesus. But in the process of that one sacrificial Word, he has saved us and revealed his heart of grace, mercy, and love.
Remember the first part of John 14: 6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life”. Truth is a person, the Truth is Jesus! Speak the Truth in Love! Speak Jesus in Love!
Today is the beginning of the Lenten season, Ash Wedesday. We are called to self-examination, to evaluate our hearts and commitment to Christ. This the perfect time to change our hearts to a more Christ-like life style of service to others and devotion to our Savior. Strengthen His body by a renewed commitment to our faith.
Thank You my precious Lord Jesus for Your great love for me. Thank You for coming to this world and shedding Your blood for the forgiveness of my sins. Help me to show Your love to all I come into contact with this day by what I say and do. For Your glory my Redeemer, Amen!
God, may the words I speak be truthful and loving. Please forgive me when I have told the “painful truth” to win arguments, to hurt feelings, or to impress others. Please forgive me for the times I exaggerated, distorted, or lied. I want my words to be simple and tender, truthful and loving. I want others to see your grace in the way I speak to them. In the name of my Savior, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
