Devotion 2/26, Nearer To Thee

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:6-7
When Peter was writing this, the Christians were under great persecution. While God did not send this suffering, He allowed it. So, Peter is instructing the believers to humble themselves under God and when the timing was right, He would deliver them from their present troubles.
This is still good instruction for us today! While our very lives may not be in danger for claiming Christ, we all have struggles and problems that come with living in this fallen sinful world. When our circumstances are less than desirable, we must stay humble before God and trust Him to deliver us from our troubles in His time, not ours. It is easy to trust Him when things are going smoothly, that does not require faith at all, but when things are rough and difficult we have two choices. We can either trust Him to carry us through or we can doubt His love for us and worry!
In moments of simple faith, we can be calmed by our reverence and dependence on the Creator and Sustainer of this universe and find great comfort that our lives are in his hands.
Almighty and wondrous God, thank you for knowing me even though I can’t begin comprehending your glory. I need your love, care, protection, blessing, grace, forgiveness, and presence. Without you, I have nothing of lasting significance. Please be near. In Jesus’ name, I humbly ask. Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
