Devotion 3/3, You Say!
We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds. Psalm 75:1
“What a wonderful God we serve!” More than just the words of a song, these words are true beyond our understanding. To be so powerful, vast, and marvelous yet still know and bless us with his personal attention and care is beyond understanding. Yet God sent Jesus to remind us that he is not only God Almighty but also Immanuel, God with us!
It will always baffle me that God loves mankind, that He loves me. If knowing this fact doesn’t cause us to give thanks to Him, then what would? Those of us who have placed our faith in Christ are made righteous by His blood and are the very children of God! We can come boldly before Him (Hebrews 4:16) not because of anything that we have done, but because of what Jesus has done on our behalf.
We are not entitled to God’s love or care so there is no room for any bragging on our part. God shows Himself in our lives because of His gracious love for us, it is all about Him. We are to tell people of God’s faithfulness to us, for by doing so, the yet unsaved may want Him for themselves!
Thank you, dear God, for being mighty, for being gracious, and for being near. Most of all, Father, thank you for being you! In Jesus’ name, I ask you to receive my thanks and praise. Amen.
Whenever I drift, I am centered on myself. I’m not focused on our Lord. But then somewhere along the line I realize my way and turn to our Lord. And I go to His Word. Who does God say I am? And this song always re-centers me.
Lord, thank you for the blood you have shed for me. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice for you people. I give thanks for You see me differently than anyone else, I pray I am constantly reminded of not what others say, but “You Say”. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
