Devotion 3/4, Word of God Speak!
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
Ephesians 4:25
Lying (falsehood) is a despicable practice to take part in. Many think that this is not a “big” sin, and therefore even call some “little white lies”. Well, lying is a big deal to God and He wants no part of it in His children’s lifestyle. Proverbs 6:19 states that lying is one of the seven things that God hates! Lying includes; exaggeration, cheating, failure to keep promises, betrayal of confidences, flattery…etc. Put simply, anything that is not 100% truth is a lie. This has become one of the reasons I stear away from the media. Instead of reporting news, their is always an agenda and it seems through further investigation we never get the whole story. It doesn’t fit their narrative.
Isn’t it terrible when one part of a body sends the wrong message to other parts of the same body? This happens with diseases and physical ailments. The results can be disastrous. Paul reminds us that dishonesty in the Body of Christ is just as damaging. Our words must not only be kind, but they must be truthful out of love and beneficial as well.
As Christians everything that we do and say is to be a reflection of Christ, the One we serve. So, it makes sense then that God does not want His Son to be misrepresented to the world. If we make a practice of lying, we are saying to the unsaved that Christ lies, and that is the exact opposite of Christ, for He is TRUTH! When we are tempted to lie to someone, Lord help us to remember that we are representing Christ to all we meet and act accordingly. What do we want the unsaved to think of our Savior?
Guard my heart against duplicity and my lips from what is false, O LORD. May my words be true to your character and grace, without deceit or guile. Teach me, dear Father, to speak in ways that bring your blessing, truth, and peace to those who hear my words. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Word of God Speak!
My precious Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to this earth and dying for my sins. Thank You for giving us Your Word to instruct us on how we are to live our lives for You. Help us this day to be accurate examples of You to all that we meet and greet. I seek to dwell in your Word, that it falls on my heart so when I speak, my words are a reflection of You and Your kingdom. In Your worthy and holy name, my Savior, Amen!
