Devotion 3/28, Lord of All
He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Colossians 1:18
This verse clearly points out that Jesus Christ is the head of His body, the church. He is not just a mere created being, He is God in the flesh. He was there at the beginning, He is Creator. He is firstborn from the dead, meaning that no one else has ever risen from the dead to die no more. He has supremacy over everything, He is first in life (creation), and He is first in the church (all believers).
There can be no doubt that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh when He walked this earth and died for our sins on the cross. He was the God-man who has the power to take our sins and wash them clean with His blood. There are many false teachings in our world that say Jesus was created, thereby denying His deity. He was fully God and fully man, and the only One who can claim to be. Salvation is found in no other under heaven but Him (Acts 4:12).
More pressing is does He have first place in our hearts and lives? As His body the church, we are to express Him to the world, when they observe us they should see an image of Him in “all” we say and do.
Precious Lord Jesus, words fail me at times to fully express my love and thankfulness to You. I certainly don’t deserve Your love, grace, and mercy. Help me to accurately present You to those in my life each day so that they may want You for themselves. I give You all praise this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
