Devotion 4/2, Seek to be His Humble Servant

To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Proverbs 8:13
To truly hate evil means to have no part of it in our day to day lives. God calls us to come out from the ways of this world and be separate from it (2 Corinthians 6:17). Instead, we are told to seek God (Hebrews 11:6, Isaiah 55:6-7), and when we truly seek Him we will hate evil.
Pride and arrogance are true hallmarks of satan and pretty much every form of evil. God seriously hates pride, arrogance and haughtiness. In fact, in James 4:6 and 1Peter 5:5 it says that God sets Himself against the proud, but shows favor to the humble.
In Psalm 10:4 it says “In his pride the wicked man does not seek Him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”
Well, there you have it, when a person is controlled by their pride there is no room for God at all! This is not surprising for a proud person already has a “god” and it is themselves.
Holy and righteous Father, forgive me of my pride and self-interest. Forgive me for my arrogance and deceitful tongue. Remake me by your Spirit to be holy in word and deed, compassionate toward those in need, and freed from evil. To you, O LORD, be the glory in my life and in your Church, forever and ever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Lord, make me a servant, focused on You in all I say and do. Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
