Devotion 4/16, Then Sings My Soul!

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
John 20:19
The disciples were in the upper room. They were locked in for fear that the Jewish leaders would find them and kill them as followers of Christ. We can only imagine the conversations that must have been taking place. Their Savior was dead, their dreams shattered, and their hope all but gone.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Jesus is in their midst. How can this be? He tells them “Peace be with you!” Oh how the sound of that voice, that they knew so very well, must have comforted them!
It is important to remember that He had not yet ascended to heaven and was still in His human body, yet He had passed through locked doors and was among them. His resurrection was indeed a miracle, but then He was God in the flesh, nothing is impossible for Him.
And then Jesus shows them his wounds from the cross.
Our lesson: When we are at our lowest points in life, and we feel that all hope is gone, fear not! Christ is with us as surely as He was with these followers of His many years ago. And He is still saying to us, “Peace be with you!” We can read His Word and realize that His blood was shed for us so that we can have life eternal when we die, and peace that passes understanding while we walk this earth, for we have His promise that he will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). What a wonderful position we are in before God because of Christ’s work on the cross.
My heart is filled with awe and wonder of how great our Lord is, always.
Wonderful Lord Jesus, words do indeed fail me to convey my thanks to You for all that You have done for me. I am so very grateful for Your love for me, which I do not deserve, and Your grace and mercy shown to me are most precious. My heart’s desire is to please You with every single day that You give me Lord.  You are my Redeemer, Comforter and Savior. You are my hope. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!
Our God never fails to amaze me.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
