Devotion 5/4, A Good Heart
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10
We are to be good to all people, just as Christ was when He walked this earth. He did those things that pleased the Father, He always served others needs, and He had a servant attitude. Of all people that ever walked this earth, Christ should have been served by mankind (His creation), but He lowered Himself for our good, even to the point of death on the cross to redeem us to God.
So, when Paul instructs us here in Galatians to do good to all people as we have opportunity, he is simply asking us to act as Christ would (Ephesians 5:1) for He is the Master of our hearts!
Next the apostle addressed the issue of those who belong to the family of believers, those who have placed their faith in Christ. As children of God we are to be especially good to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We are to behave as a family.
We are to be people who do good deeds! When God gives us the opportunity, let’s take it and do good to others! Unlike those captured by the desires of this world — those looking to get ahead, to get even with someone, or to get out of difficult situations — let’s look for opportunities to do good! And, the good we do shouldn’t be confined to other believers. Let’s do good to all people and share God’s loving kindness with other believers!
Father God, thank You for sending Jesus to pay my sin debt to You and for loving me so much more than I deserve. I pray that You help me to recognize the needs in those around me and give me the ability to help them as You would see fit for me to do. I give You all praise, honor, and glory this day, Amen!
Lord, it’s an honor to serve in your name. Fill my heart with the constant desire to seek to serve.
