Devotion 5/12, Speak Jesus
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. James 1:26
God calls us as His children to a life that is different from those who do not know Christ as Savior (2 Corinthians 6:17, Romans 12:2). One of the behaviors that is to be vastly different is our speech. There should never be any foul language, curse words, complaining, or gossip spoken by believers in Jesus Christ, for God’s Word calls these acts sin.
“It’s no big deal!” That’s the whine of a believer rationalizing vulgar, inappropriate, or hurtful speech. However, a friend confessed to me a long time ago, “Our moral plunge in the office began when we let our language slip. It didn’t seem like that big a deal at the time, but it led to disastrous consequences!” Religion that is not reflected in everyday speech is empty and hollow. So let’s use our speech to bless and encourage, not to curse, slander, or gossip.
Jesus, thank You for coming to this world and shedding Your blood to save me from my sins. Help me this day as I go out among the world to show others Your love for them by my words and actions. And may the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Oh Lord, my Rock and my Salvation. In Your name I pray, Amen!
I just want to speak Jesus. Lord fill me with your Holy Spirit, that when I speak it’s out of love and compassion, to lift people up and that they might be led to your abounding, everlasting love and salvation.
