Devotion 5/25, I Repent
Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit… Repent and live!
Ezekiel 18:31-32
Philip Ware-
“God commands us to turn away from our own self-seeking ways in repentance. He pleads with us to turn to him with a willingness to obey his will. If we refuse, we must know we are walking the road leading to death. God longs to do the work of rebirth and renewal in us, but he demands that we turn from our destructive ways and offer our hearts to him so that we can be made new by his Holy Spirit. Repentance is to turn off the road leading to destruction and onto the road that leads to the Father’s house, the place of life, joy, and salvation!”
When there is true repentance of sin, there is a new heart and a new spirit in a person. Those who know Christ as Lord have turned to Him in humbleness, we have admitted that we are sinners in need of saving and that Jesus Christ is our only redemption. Upon our salvation the Holy Spirit of God took up residence in us and caused a change in our heart which in turn changed our thoughts, actions, and our very lives!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come; The old has gone, the new is here!
My dear Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me and for rescuing me from my old life and making me a new creation, fit to serve God here on this earth and to live in heaven with You when I die! Praise God the “old is gone and the new is here.” Help me to obey Your Word each day so that I may be a good representative of You to a world that so desperately needs You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
I am a sinner. I fail, I fall and deny Him everyday.
But because he lives and I accept Him as my personal Savior, I can live tomorrow.
Lord, I repent my sinful ways and through the strength of your holy spirit I seek to be your changed servant. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for your mercy. Thank you for your love that is beyond my comprehension. I praise you Lord and give you thanks for this day and a new life every morning I wake. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
