Devotion 6/5, By God’s Grace
A wicked man puts up a bold front, but an upright man gives thought to his ways. Proverbs 21:29
Clearly, as Gods’ children we will still sin because we live in a sinful and fallen world. God knows full well that we are not, and never will be perfect this side of heaven! What God wants from His children is a purpose in our hearts to live for Him. A desire to serve Him with our day-in, day-out lives. To share the good news of Christ with those in our world, and to love as He loves. To be Christ-centered instead of self-centered. And when we mess up to confess it to Him (1 John 1:9).
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of Gods’ mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the ways of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what Gods’ will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.
We know that even though we’re flawed, God is not finished with his work in us, so we will examine ourselves and press on toward Christ-likeness!
Thank you, Almighty God, for the many times you have forgiven me. I’m sorry for the times I’ve tried to hide my sin from others and you. I want to live an honest, upright life, bringing glory to you in what I do, say, and how I treat others. Please grant me this grace with increasing measure day by day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Only by God’s grace, His steadfast love and mercies am I a child of God.
