Devotion 7/16, Lord Revive Us Again
The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel. Judges 2:7
In this portion of Judges we see Joshua die and the generation that served God with him. As this generation died the people of Israel turned from God and worshipped foreign God’s such as Baal. The previous generation had not taught their children to fear the LORD and to keep His commandments. The neglect of the fathers led to the abandonment of following God in their offspring. They went on to do evil in the eyes of God and forsook the God of their ancestors, the God who had brought them out of Egypt, the true God of the universe. Verse 12 tells us that they aroused the LORD’S anger!
It is a slippery slope when one generation dies off that has served and reverenced God. Ideally, the previous generation in each Christian family has taught their children to follow God and shared with them all the ways God had cared for them throughout their lives. But even when this is done well some may still turn from God and follow the ways of this world. Each person has to make their own choice as to whether they will trust Christ and live for Him or not.
As I watch what is going on in the news and hear how about company’s, cities and governments taking on social agendas, I can’t help but think of how It must be arousing God’s anger.
Holy God, help me pass down my faith in you and my love for you to my children and other young believers. More than that, Abba Father, help them experience your mighty power and great deeds personally through the Holy Spirit as they obey your teaching and learn to serve others sacrificially. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen.
Holy Father, I know You are slow to anger. I pray it’s time to revive our souls, to be filled with your Holy Spirit that we would live for You in all we say and do. You are the ultimate teacher and healer. Strengthen and equip us that we may be warriors for Your kingdom.
This I pray in Your name, Amen.
Hallelujah, Amen!
