Devotion 8/9, Troubles and Trials
But when [Jesus’ closest disciples] saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Mark 6:49-50
This is a familiar story. Jesus is still comforting His followers to this day isn’t He. I know that when I have gone through “storms” in life my Savior is right there by my side giving me comfort and strength to endure the trial.
I can turn to God’s Word and hear His voice through it’s pages, I can feel the Holy Spirit comforting me with His peace, and I can talk to God in prayer for reassurance that He is always there and will never leave me.
So when the winds of life howl, and the waves of trouble rise in our day let us remember where to turn for safety, peace, and comfort. Our Lord Jesus is right there to calm us and give us courage to ride out the storms, praising and thanking Him in the process for all of His love and constant care for us!
Jesus does the same for us today when we are struggling with our troubles trials. “Take courage!” he tells us, “I Am. Don’t be afraid!”
Thank you, O God, for being present and close by — always waiting to respond to my cry of distress and fear. Forgive me for not inviting you, the Lord, the great “I Am,” into a more active daily role in my life. I know you are near, so I ask that you not only make your presence known but gently confront me when I push you to the periphery of my daily life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Lord, I give thanks I am never alone, for you are by my side, always. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I might live my life to glorify you and your church, always, by what I say and do. In Jesus’ name, Amen. https://youtu.be/JLibkQbb8-E
