Devotion 8/18, Be Still my Soul

He leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.  Psalm 23:2-3
This Psalm is popular all over the world and used at many funerals to bring comfort to the grieving. However, this Psalm is not for everyone, it is only for those who are entitled to say “The Lord is my Shepherd.” While it is true that the Good Shepherd (Jesus Christ) died for all, only those who have actually received Him by faith are declared righteous and therefore His sheep (Romans 4:5). His death on the cross is sufficient for all, but it is effective only for those who have placed their faith in the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of their sins (Romans 5:8-9). So everything hinges on the personal pronoun “my”, if the Lord is my Shepherd then I am His and I have everything in Him!
What a glorious position we are in through Christ before our Holy God. He is our Shepherd and will take excellent care of His sheep. Praise be to God that He loves us and is always faithful to His own!
Thank You Father God for sending Jesus to redeem me to You. Thank You for always fulfilling my needs in this life and my eternal life to come. I give You all praise this day, Amen!
I pray today we all make time to spend with the Lord, in Word, song and prayer. Lord be still our souls, that we can count on You to provide and give us rest. Amen

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
