Devotion 8/27, Repent, what a joy it is!
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Acts 3:19
Isaiah 4:22
“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to Me for I have redeemed you.”
For those of us who already know Christ as Savior, we are to repent of sins in our lives as soon as we are aware of them. Our sins have already been wiped out by the blood of Christ when we accepted Him as Lord and Savior. But our fellowship with God will be hindered if there is no turning away from sinful practices.
Repentance is not just being sorry for sin. Repentance is acknowledging sin and turning away from it, it is a purpose in our hearts to obey God and live our lives for Him. We will never be refreshed and enjoy our lives if we are living in disobedience to God’s Word. We have the Holy Spirit indwelling us that will bring conviction when we have a sinful way that must be dealt with (1 Thessalonians 1:5).
Be thankful for the conviction that is brought about by the Holy Spirit when we sin. We should want nothing to block God’s anointing on our lives.
Father God, thank You for wiping out my sins through the blood of Christ. Thank You for your Spirit that leads, guides, and convicts. Help me to keep my focus fixed on You and to bask and be refreshed in Your light each day. Amen.
Jesus, what a joy it is when I repent. Your grace, mercy and love are overwhelming for me, a sinner. I pray your Holy Spirit fill my soul, that I might repent of my ungodly thoughts and acts and turn to You in all I think, say and do. Keep me focused on You and your Word, that I will live my life for You and to serve others. In your name I pray, Amen.
