Devotion 9/14, Eyes on Jesus
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
If you have ever wondered how to live a godly victorious life for Christ, this verse holds the answer…..FIX your eyes on Jesus. When our gaze is diligently upon Him, we will run with perseverance this race called life. Not looking to the right or left, but having tunnel vision solely on our Savior, obeying Him in all that we say and do.
But sadly satan is constantly trying to distract us from our goal, he throws temptations at us on a regular basis, he can assail us with doubt, worry, and guilt, and he will also use others to try and keep us from living a Christ-centered life. If we go back to Hebrews 12:1, the verse just prior to our verse for today, we will see how to deal with these distractions. We are to “throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles us”. Well there you have it! As a runner in a race carries as little on his body as is necessary and “throws off” all that hinders him, so we are to do with sin. The minute we are aware of sin, we are to do as 1 John 1:9 says and confess it to God, then put it behind us, and continue on our course for Christ.
Thank You my precious Redeemer for fulfilling the salvation plan, for even counting it as joy, and for atoning for my sin on Your own body on the cross. My desire is to live for You all the days that You grant me and to bring honor and glory to You in the process. I give You all praise this day, Amen!
Lord, we can be confident that if we follow in Jesus’ footsteps, the trail he blazed wasn’t just for him but also for all of us who follow him! I ask for the strength to stay focused on Christ in all I say and do today, that I might seek to do Your will, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
