Devotion 9/15, The heart of God

You, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.
Psalm 10:14
Many times it seems as if the wicked are getting away with the injustices that they commit, doesn’t it? They seem to carry on in their cold-heartedness and arrogance with no end in sight. But rest assured there most definitely is and end in sight for all evil-doers!
Our verse for today states that God sees trouble and grief, and He not only sees it, He considers it and takes it in hand. In other words He is keeping a careful record of all the evil and injustices that the wicked do so that He can repay them for their despicable acts in the coming day. The Bible tells us repeatedly that God will repay evil, we are not to take vengeance, but to leave room for God to repay (Romans 12:19, Psalm 94:23). So, the Godless may have a brief time to do their evil, but one day they will fall into the hands of the living God and spend all of eternity in hell because of their rejection of Christ!
Well, what about their victims? When those who are treated unfairly or brutally by these wicked ones commit themselves to God (place their faith and trust in Christ), He is their Defender and Helper. Notice how the psalmist names the “fatherless” as victims. In Bible times an orphan was truly helpless and prone to fall into the hands of merciless individuals. They were usually used as slave labor and many starved to death or died of exposure because no one provided food or shelter for them. But God says He will be their helper.
God abhors those who take advantage of powerless people, who are going through a series of difficulties, or who are in compromising situations. Those who exploit the needy, weak, poor, or disadvantaged must know that God sees their actions and will hold them accountable. Those in distress need to keep their faith in God, trusting that he sees, cares, and will send help at His right time. Those of us who fit neither category need to work for the deliverance and blessing of those facing difficulties and hardships. That’s the heart of God (Psalm 68:5; Isaiah 10:1-3).
Father God, I am so thankful that You are my Provider, Defender, and Protector. I can look back on my life and see Your mighty hand all over it. I am nothing without You and am so elated to be a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ! I give You all glory, honor, and praise this day, Amen!
Gracious God, please bless people I know who are in times of real distress, heartbreak, hurting and suffering from illness. Please use me to minister to them. But please, dear Father, fill them with your Spirit so they will have the strength and courage necessary to endure with faith. Bless them with deliverance that is clearly from you so that all will know your grace and give glory to you. I ask this in Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
