Devotion 10/5, Let your light shine on us
For [the Father] has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. Colossians 1:13
Before we came to Christ, we were all living in the “dominion of darkness”, meaning we were following satan. We know from Scripture that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We needed a Savior, One who could rescue us from the sinful state that we were living in, One who could shine a brilliant light into the darkness that we were groping around in. Enter Jesus!
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
God sent Jesus to this world to redeem us and reconcile us to God, to take us from a life of darkness and deception, to one of light and truth! Only Jesus Christ and His blood shed on the cross at Calvary, has the power to cleanse our sin and make us acceptable to God. When we place our faith in Christ, we go from sinner to saint in the eyes of God, we become His children (John 1:12). Our sins are forgiven and our eternity in heaven set and sealed by God!
We’ve been made into a more glorious and colorful people — one not based on race, ethnicity, language, social status, nation, or skin color! We are God’s children and part of the Kingdom of the Son he loves.
Use us, O Father, to break down the barriers that separate peoples based on temporary externals. Make us into a Kingdom of character, hope, and love. Cast all darkness out of our hearts. Shine the light of your grace through us to our world so people can see the healing for what divides us. I pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the only Savior of all peoples. Amen.
