Devotion 1/10, Come Holy Spirit I need you
Since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9
One thing that stands out to me about Paul is that he always prayed for the specific needs of each group of believers he addressed. He didn’t pray in generalities, but about particular needs that he knew each group had. This showed his deep love and concern for fellow saints, and his desire that they grow spiritually!
Now he tells them that he is asking God to fill them with “knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom”. He doesn’t want them to just accumulate knowledge about God, he wants them to experience the knowledge OF God that comes from obeying His Word and seeking His will for their lives. He wants them to live out their faith!
The very same is true for us today. God has no desire for us to only know what His Word says, He wants us to apply it to our everyday lives, doing His will instead of our own, putting others before ourselves, and going the extra mile to show love to those around us.
Holy and all-powerful God, bless my church family with a deeper knowledge and appreciation of your nature, character, and grace. In addition, please bless mission churches and those working with them. Bless them with growth, health, assurance, and, most of all, knowledge of you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Come Holy Spirit, to each of my brothers and sisters in Christ. From my family of faith, to all those in your mission churches, fill us will you Spirit, that we may do your will in all we say and do.
