Devotion 1/17, Family of God

Ruth replied [to her mother-in-law, Naomi]: “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”
Ruth 1:16
I know that many see this as Ruth’s loyalty and devotion to Naomi, but I see it as her loyalty and devotion to God. She wanted to make Naomi’s people her people, and Naomi’s God her God for Ruth loved God!
What an example for Christians today! There may be times in our lives when we must separate from people, even some family members, to follow God.
I so admire Ruth for recognizing that in Moab she would not be with people who would help her grow spiritually, but in Bethlehem she would because they knew God.
This is just another example of the importance of surrounding ourselves with brothers and sisters in Christ. We hold each accountable to God’s word, and build each other up to be better witnesses for our Lord in everything we say and do. We are a “family of faith, a family of God”!
Father God, thank You for sending Jesus to this world to shed His blood for the forgiveness of my sins. Help me to follow Your perfect will for my life, Father, for I want to please You. I give You all glory, honor, and praise this day, Amen!

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
