Devotion 1/30, Trust in God
Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes.”
In our verses today, Moses is trying to calm the Israelites as they are preparing to leave Horeb and travel to Kadesh. They are terrified from the accounts they have heard of their enemies being taller and stronger than they and of their cities being huge with walls very high and impenetrable (vs. 28). So, Moses reminds them of the way God fought for them in Egypt, of all the miracles He performed to save them from Pharaoh’s armies and of all the provisions He supplied them with to live. Surely God would not bring them this far, and then desert them!
When problems arise and we become fearful, Lord help us to cling to Christ and trust God to deliver us from our current troubles in His time frame. He has promised to never leave us (Hebrews 13:5), to perfect that which concerns us, (Psalm 138:8), and to work all things out for our good when we are called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28). When satan tries to get you to doubt God in the midst of unpleasant circumstances, quote these Scriptures to him and he will flee. The pray to our Lord and thank Him for His strength and protections.
Holy Father, thank You for loving me and for sending Jesus to die for my sins. Thank You for being my Defender, Provider, and Sustainer in this life that You have called me to live. Help me to trust You no matter the circumstances of life, and to praise and glorify You Abba all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
