Devotion 2/7, Give Thanks!

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.      Colossians 2:6-7

Paul is encouraging the Colossians to go on in the same way they had begun, by faith. They had already received Jesus as LORD, acknowledging that in Him there was complete sufficiency, not only for salvation but for the whole of their Christian life. By Paul saying “continue to live in Him”, he is confirming that they have been living in a godly manner, and urges them to continue to do so. They should not be taken in by false teachings of men, however convincing they may sound. They are to stick to Christ and His teachings, going forward in their Christian walk.
Satan is crafty and will use whatever he can to try and lure individuals away from the true, good, solid, foundational teaching of God’s Word! Jesus is the “truth” and the God’s Word never changes. But beware of how Satan will try and twist God’s Word to with man’s false teachings.

“Overflowing with thankfulness”, many, many times in Scripture we are told to be thankful. Here we are told to overflow with thankfulness. God knows that when we are thankful, we are humble and contrite before Him. By thanking Him for all that we are and have we are acknowledging that we had nothing to do with it, it is all because of and from Him. He is in control, not us!

Be thankful as we will go astray, but He says “Come to Me and rest, I am all about you, to bless and restore”!

Holy and loving Father, please give me eyes to see and avoid evil. Please give me the wisdom to know deceptive and false teachings when placed before me. Empower me to live a thankful life of holiness rooted in Jesus as my Lord and overflowing with thankfulness. I pray to honor and exalt Jesus as Lord to the glory of God the Father and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
