Devotion 2/9, The “gift” of God’s grace
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
We are saved by grace through faith, we know this from our verses today and many others in Scripture. No good work can save our souls. However, when salvation has actually occurred in someone the result will be to do good works because that is what our new nature through Christ Jesus brings about. Good works are not the root of salvation but the fruit of it!
It is the pride in human nature that insists on thinking there is something one can do to earn salvation. Many falsely believe that church attendance, giving a certain sum of money to the church, or taking communion…etc, can save our souls. While these are all good, obedient, and godly things to do, they gain you no favor whatsoever towards salvation with God. Salvation comes by grace through faith in the blood of Christ that was shed on the cross some two thousand years ago. By admitting that we are sinners and placing our trust in Him, we are putting our sin under that blood for forgiveness by God. It is the only way that God will forgive our sin. (Romans 5:8-9, Romans 3:25, Ephesians 1:7, 1 John 1:7, 1Peter 1:18-19, Hebrews 9:12)
Thank You Jesus for loving me and for dying for me! I am fully aware that I do not even come close to deserving Your gift of love, mercy, and grace. But I am so very thankful that You did not give me what I deserved! Help me to show Your love to all in my life each day and to consistently live for You. I ask this for Your glory my precious Lord and Savior, Amen!
One of my favorite songs to start my day, a reminder of God’s amazing love for each of us.
