Devotion 2/12, Oh , the Wisdom of Proverbs!

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.   Proverbs 2:11
Discretion, or the ability to make wise decisions, saves a person from many devastating pitfalls in life! These wise decisions can only be made by asking God for wisdom each day. When our focus in on Christ and doing His business, the indwelling Holy Spirit will give us all the wisdom we need for the decisions that we need to make.

Ephesians 5:15-17
Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

While discretion and understanding are partially acquired through learning and experience, they are also a gift from God. This gift doesn’t come on demand, especially when we rush God for his answers to us. Discretion comes from patiently seeking, trusting, and waiting on the Lord’s guidance through the Holy Spirit and from a heart longing to live for him with holy character, regardless of the rewards or costs.

When I look back on my bad decisions in life it is always because I either did not pray about it or I acted impulsively. It is through those trying times that I have learned, many times the hard way, to ALWAYS ask God what His desire is for me. His will for me is always 100% better than my own!

Proverbs 4:6
Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you: love her, and she will watch over you.

Gracious, loving and merciful Lord of all, help me to seek Your perfect will for me each day! Thank You for loving me and for guiding me. Forgive me when I stubbornly go my own way, for it never ends well! But when I follow You, peace and contentment abound. I give You all praise, glory, and honor this day, Amen!

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
