Devotion 3/18, We were Chosen by our God, REJOICE!

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12
I love how this verse starts out, “as God’s chosen people”, no matter how long I have heard this it still thrills my heart that God chose me to be His child, that He loved me first before I loved Him! Knowing this, how can I help but want to live my life in obedience to Him as His dearly loved child.
To live our lives as His holy people we are to clothe ourselves or “put on” compassion:
When we see someone hurting we are to help them as best we can. This world is a cold place with an equally cold people. We are to exhibit a genuine warmth and caring for others because this is what Christ does.
We are to clothe ourselves with kindness:
This is an unselfish spirit that loves and helps others for their good, not for anything we might get out of it. It is an attitude of goodwill and affection toward people.
We are to clothe ourselves with humility:
This is a heart that does not mind placing others before ourselves. Considering their needs above our own, just as Jesus did when He walked this earth.
And lastly, we are to clothe ourselves with gentleness and patience:
There is so much brashness and impatience in our world today. It seems the older I get the more I am aware of the impatience and flat out rudeness of people I encounter each day. As God’s children we should be different. When we interact with others they should see an image of our Savior Jesus Christ in us, they should see a kind attitude that is laced with joy!
All these characteristics are in us through the Holy Spirit but we must choose to put them on, as we would clothing, each day as we go out in this world. This is what God desires of His children. So, what will we wear today?
Father, thank You for loving me! Thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins. I certainly do not deserve Your love but am so very thankful for it. Help me to live a life that is set apart from this world and centered on You and Your will each day. Help me to show Your love and Your compassion to all I meet so as to bring glory and honor to You in the process. I give You all praise this day, Amen!
You were chosen by our God.  REJOICE!

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
