Devotion 6/14, Purify

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
We are created by God with three parts to our nature and being; spirit, soul, and body.
Our spirit is that part that enables us to have communion with God, to have a relationship with Him. Every day we should read and think upon His Word and talk to Him through prayer. He then will speak to us through His Spirit that lives inside us and through His words that we read in the Bible. We must be vigilant to let nothing interfere with our time spent with God (John 4:23).
Our soul is our emotions, desires, and affections. We are to be careful to keep ourselves from evil thoughts which can lead to evil actions (Matthew 15:18, Ephesians 2:3). We should be cautious about being involved in contention and strife, especially among God’s children. Things such as these steal our joy and can make us completely ineffective for Christ on this earth! A Christian is to be careful who we keep company with for they will influence us either for good or bad (1 Corinthians 15:33).
Our body we are to keep from defilement and evil uses (1 Thessalonians 4:3-8, Romans 6:19). We are to use our bodies to do God’s work on this earth, to be captive to righteousness and committed to living holy lives. These bodies that we have are temples of God (1 Corinthians 6:19) and we are to do nothing that would defile them, such as substance abuse, gluttony, sexual immorality….etc.
How do you want God to find you when Jesus returns?
Father God, I purpose in my heart to live solely for You each day. To go where you tell me to go, and do what You call me to do, for Your glory, honor, and praise Abba, Amen!

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
