Devotion 6/16, Focus on Blessing Our Father today
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:28
Jesus challenges us to recognize that sin starts in our hearts and begins when we longingly seek what is not ours to have. While the world may think such rigorous guarding of our hearts as impossible or ridiculous, Jesus wants us to know he takes sin — and the place it begins, the lust of our hearts — seriously.”
But, doesn’t all sin start in our hearts? Through study of His Word, prayerful conversations with Him, and the support of the Holy Spirit and our brothers and sisters in Christ, we can purify our hearts to focus on God’s will for our lives and His Kingdom.
Loving Father, give me the strength to resist temptation, the wisdom to stay away from it, and the character to triumph over it. Purify my heart, O God, and make it yearn for what is holy and life-giving. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
It’s long, but this song can set the stage in your heart for a beautiful day today.
