Devotion 6/26, Daily Prayer
[Jesus taught his disciples, “When] you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:6
It is so very important to God that we pray to Him. The reason being is for when we pray to God we are focusing on Him! We are saying to Him that we love Him, trust Him, and are fully confident that He hears and will answer us (Philippians 4:6-7; 1 John 5:14).
The point of this verse is not to make it a rule that we have to go into a room and close the door to pray every time. The point is that there should be a time each day where we get alone before God and commune with Him, solely focused on Him. A time where we praise Him, make our requests known to Him, basically pour our heart out to Him. There are times when during my prayer time, I am at a loss for words to even say to Him! But praise God, He knows our hearts and the Holy Spirit conveys our hearts to Him.
Father, thank you so much for the incredible gift of prayer. Thank you for listening to both my words and my heart. Thank you for always being near and not far off. Thank you for blessing me with the Holy Spirit within me to intercede for me when I can’t quite find the words to say. Please forgive me when I don’t call upon you as often as I should or when I take your gracious listening ear for granted. In Jesus’ name, I am humbled and blessed when I pray with you. Amen.
